Position Paper - Challenge to the Representation Agreement Act PDF At our 2010 Annual General Meeting, members voted to challenge the exclusion of psychiatric patients from the rights enshrined in the Representation Agreement Act. Based on advice from the BC Civil Liberties Association, we held two focus group sessions to gain input from members who had been involuntarily committed. This position paper reflects the input and recommendations of these two sessions. 2010 Forum Report - Nuts and Junkies: Beyond the Stereotypes PDF On October 6, 2010, the Network took part in a half-day grass-roots forum, together with the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU), and the Centre for the Study of Gender, Social Inequalities and Mental Health. The forum addressed the City's need to engage both drug users and mental health consumers and to pave the way for better advocacy and policy within its Urban Health framework. Forty participants took part in facilitated discussions and identified many common issues, including the importance of peer support, crisis intervention, education and empowerment. |
